چکیده

We study nonlinear adiabatic connection paths in density-functional theory using modified electron–electron interactions that perform a long-range/short-range separation of the Coulomb interaction. These adiabatic connections allow us to define short-range exchange–correlation potentials and short-range local exchange–correlation energies per particle which we have calculated accurately for the He and Be atoms and compared to the corresponding quantities in the local density approximation (LDA). The results confirm that the LDA better describes exchange–correlation potentials and local exchange–correlation energies per particle when the range of the interaction is reduced.

Exchange-correlation energy from pairing matrix fluctuation and the particle-particle random phase approximation.

Despite their unmatched success for many applications, commonly used local, semi-local, and hybrid density functionals still face challenges when it comes to describing long-range interactions, static correlation, and electron delocalization. Density functionals of both the occupied and virtual orbitals are able to address these problems. The particle-hole (ph-) Random Phase Approximation (RPA)...

Exchange-Correlation Energies and Correlation Holes for Some Two- and Four-Electron Atoms along a Nonlinear Adiabatic Connection in Density Functional Theory

The adiabatic connection procedure of density functional theory has been applied to twoand four-electron atomic systems by following a nonlinear path that leads from the noninteracting Kohn–Sham reference system to the physical one. We have calculated the exchange and correlation energies as the interaction strength is increased, as well as the densities of the corresponding correlation holes. ...

Excitation Energies from Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory Using Exact and Approximate Potentials

The role of the exchange-correlation potential and the exchange-correlation kernel in the calculation of excitation energies from time-dependent density functional theory is studied. Excitation energies of the helium and beryllium atoms are calculated, both from the exact Kohn-Sham ground-state potential, and from two orbital-dependent approximations. These are exact exchange and self-interacti...

Correlation energy per particle from the coupling-constant integration

The adiabatic connection can be used in density functional theory to define the unknown ~exchange and! correlation density functional. Using conventional wave-function techniques, accurate estimates of thus defined ~exchange and! correlation energy densities can be obtained for specified systems. In this paper, numerical results are presented for the He and the Be atom, as well as the isoelectr...

Nonlinear Quantum Evolution Equations to Model Irreversible Adiabatic Relaxation with Maximal Entropy Production and Other Nonunitary Processes

We first discuss the geometrical construction and the main mathematical features of the maximum-entropy-production/steepest-entropyascent nonlinear evolution equation proposed long ago by this author in the framework of a fully quantum theory of irreversibility and thermodynamics for a single isolated or adiabatic particle, qubit, or qudit, and recently rediscovered by other authors. The nonlin...
